Further Funding Boost For Brisbane Clubs

Bardon Latrobe's Bowman Park secured a $500k grant.

The second round of the Federal Government’s Community Sports Infrastructure Program funding has been announced, with 4 Football Brisbane affiliated clubs as part of 11 across Queensland, successful in their applications and approved to receive close to $1 million in funding. Supporting small to medium-scale projects up to $500,000 to improve local community sport infrastructure, the Federal Government funding program will benefit the successful Queensland clubs by generating greater participation in football as well as providing safer and more inclusive community sporting hubs. “The development of club facilities is a key strategy of Football Queensland to aid in growing the game, as there is no doubt upgrading facilities is a key driver to increasing and retaining participants within communities,” said FQ/FB Infrastructure and Government Relations consultant David O’Leary. “This is an incredible result for our game and the clubs that have been successful,” said O’Leary. “With the high demand for funding under this program, to have 11 football clubs across the state funded out of 42 speaks volumes for the determination and dedication of the clubs and volunteers.” With over 2,050 applications and more than $396 million in grant requests, there were 232 successful Round 2 applicants. Two of those Brisbane clubs, Bardon Latrobe and North Brisbane FC were amongst the successful applicants. “Receiving this federal infrastructure grant is literally a ‘game changer’ for Bardon Latrobe Football club." Said President Phil Cowlishaw. "At long last our home and away women, men, girls and boys will not have to share one grim change room the size of PWD toilet (which is in fact what this room will become when the clubhouse is renovated)." "This grant will allow this community sports club, which is used by many local schools, to build a modern four change room facility and upgrade the existing toilets. The club is very grateful to everyone who has helped us secure this desperately needed funding.” he added. North Brisbane FC Secretary Greg Vitulano said, "The upgrade of the playing surface and erection of perimeter fencing will position us well for the future, enabling the increase in the number of teams at the club and increase in the average playing hours on a more resilient playing surface". He added, 'This funding provides the club with long term sustainability for forthcoming years." Mr Vitulano also acknowledged the assistance provided by FQ/FB Infrastructure and Government Relations consultant David O'Leary, saying "We'd specifically like to thank David for the excellent strategic advice provided and also his consistent involvement and commitment during the process." The 4 Football Brisbane affiliates approved for second round of funding are: • Bardon Latrobe $500,000 • Holland Park Hawks FC $112,820 • North Brisbane FC $150,395 • Rochedale Rovers FC $16,400
