Update Regarding Competitions & Draws
As per the 2019 Season Calendar, Round 1 of our Men's & Women's Veto City Leagues, Junior Divisional and ALDI MiniRoos fixtures are scheduled to commence this coming weekend, Friday 15 March - Sunday 17 March. Over the last 72 hours, Football Brisbane has received an unprecedented number of team withdrawals, additions, divisional change requests and significant fixturing changes following the communication of the draft draws sent to clubs last Tuesday.
Over 75 teams across our Veto City Leagues and Junior Divisional competitions have withdrawn, asked to be added to a competition, or requested a change in division. This has decimated many of our competitions, reducing several to 6-8 team leagues. In that time, a further 100+ ALDI MiniRoos teams have also asked to be included in the ALDI MiniRoos season and it is not possible to action this prior to the 4th round of ALDI MiniRoos fixtures. Football Brisbane is still yet to receive fixturing feedback from over 30 of our participating clubs regarding this weekend’s round and further rounds prior to Easter. This is of great concern as it will affect a substantial number of our fixtures and will not give our clubs, teams, coaches and players enough time to adjust to any and all of the possible changes prior to the weekend. The flow on effect to our refereeing appointments is also paramount, as we require enough time to action these fixturing changes and appoint referees where possible. Due to these reasons, Football Brisbane has made the decision to postpone Round 1 of the Veto City Leagues, Junior Divisional and ALDI MiniRoos competitions.
Round 1 of the City League competitions will now be played in the first scheduled ‘Catch Up’ round for that league on the 3-5 May.
Round 1 of the Junior Divisional competitions will be played in the first scheduled ‘Catch Up’ round for those competitions on 14-16 June.
An additional round of fixtures will be added to the ALDI MiniRoos on the 6-8 September.
Football Brisbane apologises for the inconvenience this will cause our clubs, teams and players who had expected to take the field in their respective competitions this coming weekend. With such fluidity in our competitions and participating teams over the last 72 hours, it has become increasingly difficult to ensure our fixtures will be published with enough time for our teams to prepare to play this weekend and our referees to officiate. Once this season is underway, Football Brisbane will begin to liaise with stakeholders to identify improvements that can be made to team nomination and competition establishment processes to deliver on these improvements for next season. Note: This DOES NOT affect Brisbane Men's Premier League, Mt Franklin Brisbane Women's Premier League, VILIC LAW Capital Leagues, Women's Capital League and Brisbane Youth Premier League fixtures this weekend.
