Brisbane Clubs Receive Funding Boost

North Brisbane FC's Prentice Park (above) is one venue awarded grant funding from Brisbane City Council.

It was recently reported by Football QLD and Football Brisbane Infrastructure and Government Relations Officers David O'Leary and Phil Reeves, that ten clubs from our zone have been approved grant funding by Brisbane City Council to the tune of $468,520. The grants awarded are as follows: Infrastructure Projects

  • Brisbane City FC $100,000 to develop two bowling greens into a junior training facility

  • North Brisbane FC $100,000 to upgrade field and install fencing

  • North Star FC $93,250 to upgrade lighting

  • The Gap FC $18,000 Field Maintenance

  • Toowong FC $88,270 Clubhouse Upgrade

  • Virginia United FC $39,000 Field Rehabilitation

Total $438,520 Organisational Development

  • Centenary Stormers FC $7,500 Master Plan for their complex

  • Moggill FC $7,500 Master Plan for their complex

  • Newmarket FC $7,500 Strategic Plan

  • UQFC $7,500 Strategic Plan

Total $30,000 Both David and Phil have credited each of the clubs for the hard yards put into applying for the grants and on being incredibly proactive. It is however testament to both David and Phil, who have assisted with the application process, that the Facilities Plan and the building of Council relationships does appear to be working. Football Brisbane Chairman Jeremy Medina was also full of praise saying, "We are very appreciative of Brisbane City Council working directly with our clubs to support the clubs' needs and those of the wider football community though infrastructure funding." He added, "This is an excellent outcome for the clubs who have received this funding. With the expert knowledge that both David and Phil provide in the grants application process, all of our clubs can continue to work with local and state government representatives to improve their facilities for the direct benefit of their membership and the sport in general." Mr O'Leary stated, "The amount of total approved projects across all community organisations was $2.5m and our code has accessed almost 20% of the budget which is a fantastic result." He added, "We have secured 10 approved projects while AFL, Rugby Union and Rugby League secured 8 combined which all in all, is a superb outcome. Along with a few more Federal Government Community Sports Infrastructure Projects approved across the State (at least 4 in the second round), we can assert that both Football QLD and Football Brisbane are making some progress."
