Pig 'N' Whistle Canale Cup Quarter Final and Semi Final Draws
The Quarter Finals and Semi Finals were recently drawn at Football Brisbane's head quarters with some interesting match-ups ahead. Lowest ranked side, Viva Capital League 3's Brisbane Athletic were once again rewarded with a home tie following their giant killing win over high flying Viva Capital League 1 side Caboolture. They will face Viva Capital League 2 side New Farm Utd who needed a penalty shootout win over The Lakes to reach the quarter finals. This will ensure at least one Viva Capital League side will feature in the semi-finals with the winner set to meet the winner of Moggill v Grange Thistle. This tie will be an intriguing contest. Moggill are in a rich vein of form and could pose a real threat to the Flight Centre Brisbane Premier League title chasers. The draw saw one all Flight Centre Brisbane Premier League clash with Bayside Utd to host Virginia Utd at Don Randall Oval. The two sides have drawn both league games this season so this one is set to be a close encounter. Whoever does come out of this tie victorious will face to the winner of UQFC v AC Carina in the remaining quarter final tie. AC Carina top the Viva Capital League 2 ladder but left it late to knockout league rivals Kangaroo Point Rovers in the last round. A trip to Flight Centre Brisbane Premier League side UQFC, who currently reside in third spot, could prove a step too far. especially given the Student’s recent league win over Grange Thistle.
