Football Brisbane Teams Ready For FQ Community Cup

The inaugural Football Queensland (FQ) Community Cup gets underway on Sunday 7 July with teams from across the state descending upon Mackay where the tournament is being hosted. On Thursday evening, all of the Football Brisbane players and coaches received their playing strips following a week of training in preparation ahead of facing representative teams from the other zones in Queensland and regional NPL teams. Football Brisbane will be fielding 11 teams in total which will also include some rivalry between Brisbane North and South in many of the age groups - U12 Boys North & South, U13 Boys North & South, U13 Girls, U14 Boys North & South, U15 Boys North & South, U15 Girls and U16 Boys will compete in the week long competition.

The FQ Community Cup was established to offer a statewide junior football tournament for players from grassroots community clubs, to have an opportunity of competing at local representative level against other regions. Over 50 teams from participating zones and three regional NPL clubs, Cairns FC, North Queensland United and Magpies Crusaders United, will compete at the FQ Community Cup. “The tournament will provide an opportunity for the next generation of talent to compete in a state competition,” Football QLD General Manager of Football Operations Brendon Boss said. “It will also provide our National Premier Leagues (NPL) selectors with an avenue to identify developing players for NPL programs, as well as provide coach and referee education.”

In addition to the FQ Community Cup, Mackay will also be hosting a pre-season fixture between Brisbane Roar's Hyundai A-League squad and NPL side Mackay & Whitsundays Magpies Crusaders United on the Thursday evening during the tournament, providing an opportunity for everyone competing in Mackay to experience a professional game. The Brisbane Roar players will also be heading out to the FQ Community Cup for meet and greet sessions with the players during the tournament, offering a unique opportunity for the grassroots players from across the state to rub shoulders with some of their idols. Football Brisbane would like wish all of our teams traveling to Mackay the best of luck and hope everyone involved enjoys the experience and forms new friendships as well as making Brisbane proud.
