FFA Cup Brisbane Zone RD6 & RD7 Draw
The Brisbane Zone Preliminary RD6 and RD7 draw was carried out earlier today at Football Brisbane and it produced some interesting rivalries as the remaining nine teams, which includes one RD5 tie still to be determined, as to who will progress to RD7 and vie for those two elusive places in the National Round of 32. The winner of either Ipswich City (the last remaining Football Brisbane zone team in the cup) and Peninsula Power, will enjoy home ground advantage with Brisbane Strikers the visitors.
For Strikers, it continues a long run of away ties with the Perry Park side having not played a home tie in the preliminary rounds since Round 6 in 2015 when they defeated Moreton Bay United 2-1. They will have to continue that trend should they progress to Round 7 where they have yet again been drawn away to face the winner of the 'Bromance Derby' between Lions FC and Rochedale Rovers which will pit close friends Warren Moon and Scott MacNicol against each other.
Lions will be looking to reach the Round of 32 for just the second time whilst Rovers will be looking feature for the first time on the national stages of the competition. Moreton Bay United will look to follow last season's adventure in the national rounds when they face fellow NPL side Olympic FC at Wolter Park. Olympic fought off a valiant Centenary Stormers last weekend to reach RD6 with a come from behind 2-1 victory to dump out the last of the Flight Centre Brisbane Premier League sides from this years competition.
You can watch the highlights from our live stream of that encounter here.
The winner of the Jets v Olympic tie will face an away trip to the winner of the remaining RD6 tie which sees familiar cup foes Logan Lightning and Brisbane City once again face off in an FFA Cup clash. Amazingly, this will be the third time in the five years of the FFA Cup that these two sides will meet and on both of the previous two occasions it was Logan who prevailed - 1-0 winners in 2014 and 3-2 winners in 2017. Both of those wins though, came at Brisbane City's Corporate Travel Management Stadium, whereas Cornubia Park will be the venue of their latest meeting and perhaps one City will look to seek revenge from.
