Pig 'N' Whistle Canale Cup RD2

Round 2 of the Pig 'N' Whistle Canale Cup continues this week as we look to see who will join the following teams in the RD3 draw. Through so far are:

  • Clairvaux

  • Jimboomba United

  • Brisbane Knights

  • Grange Thistle

  • Moggill

  • Kanagaroo Point Rovers

  • Logan City Kings

There have been some interesting score lines along the way with Flight Centre Brisbane Premier League side Grange Thistle just edging out league rivals Taringa Rovers. Both sides fell at the first hurdle of each of their FFA Cup campaigns this year which resulted in their entering the Pig 'N' Whistle Canale Cup at this juncture of the competition.

Moggill and Logan City Kings both produced upsets in this round with Moggill playing out a 5-5 extra time draw away to The Gap before knocking out the Flight Centre Brisbane Premier League side 4-3 on penalties.

Kings meanwhile, dispensed of Westside Grovely from the division above them on Sunday afternoon to join Jimboomba United in the RD3 draw as two sides from Viva Capital League 3 to go through so far.

Five more ties remain although one has been postponed this evening with the all Flight Centre Brisbane Premier League tie between Bayside United and North Pine falling foul of wet weather conditions.

The remaining ties this week are:.

Tue 8 May, 7.30pm KO: Brisbane Athletic v Tarragindi Tigers @ Pinkenba Reserve.

Brisbane Athletic have endured a couple of losses at home in recent league games but Tarragindi are a side struggling for form in the division above. It's a tough one to call but if Athletic play to their potential, they should easily account for the Tigers. Athletic to go through.

Tue 8 May, 7.30pm KO: Bardon Latrobe v Acacia Ridge @ Ron Proud Field (due to lighting requirements).

With Bardon Latrobe not having suitable lighting for night time fixtures at Bowman Park, they will be playing this tie at Acacia Ridge's home ground at Ron Proud Field.

Bardon are another side struggling in Viva Capital League 2 and a match up against Flight Centre Brisbane Premier League opposition looks a tall order for them. Ridge should comfortably progress to the next round.

Tue 8 May, 7.45pm KO: Pine Hills v Bethania Rams @ James Drysdale Reserve.

Pine Hills have hit some form of late, winning their last four league games on the trot which has included impressive wins against Annerley and New Farm.

Bethania sit atop Viva Capital League 3 but were held to a 1-1 draw by bottom side Logan Village at the weekend. It could be a long and arduous Tuesday night outing for the Rams, especially if the Pythons continue with the kind of form shown over the last month. Pine Hills to go through.

Wed 9 May, 7.45pm KO: Oxley United v Toowong @ Dunmore Park (due to lighting requirements).

Another tie shifted to the away team's venue with Oxley United heading to fellow Viva Capital League 1 side Toowong on Wednesday night.

The two sides have met already this season with a 2-2 draw played out at Dunmore Park back in March. Oxley though, have suffered five straight losses since then and face a tough test if they're to move progress at the expense of the league leaders. Based on recent form, it's hard to see Toowong losing this one.
