Pig 'N' Whistle Canale Cup RD1 Preview

As well as the FFA Cup this week, we also have RD1 of the Pig 'N' Whistle Canale Cup taking place, consisting of those sides knocked out of RD2 of the cup. We've had two ties already with Moggill and Taringa Rovers both heading through to RD2. They're joined by Clairvaux and Acacia Ridge who received byes to RD2 from the RD1 draw. Here's the rest of the RD1 ties to take place... Tue 10 Apr, 7.30pm KO: Logan Metro (VCL3) v Brisbane Knights (FCBPL) @ Compton Park. Last season's FFA Cup giant killers Brisbane Knights fell at the first hurdle this year in an upset of their own when lower division side Annerley bundled them out, but they have an opportunity to get another cup run underway when they head to Viva Capital League 3 side Logan Metro. It wont be an easy tie for Knights who will have to contend with a close knit Metro side eager to enjoy some cup success, so Dave McEvoy's side will need to turn up or face another cupset in 2018. Prediction: Perhaps tighter than some will think but Knights to edge through 3-1. Wed 11 Apr, 7.00pm KO: North Brisbane (VCL2) v Bardon Latrobe (VCL2) @ Prentice Park. This could prove a tough outing for Bardon who have failed to get their season off and running, when they head to Prentice Park to face undefeated league rivals North Brisbane. The Aces were dumped out of the FFA Cup by lower division side Jimboomba Utd but since then have gone five games undefeated. At home and with league form on their side, North Brisbane should see themselves heading to the RD2 draw. Prediction: The Aces to get the job done with a 4-0 success. Wed 11 Apr, 7.30pm KO: Kangaroo Point Rovers (VCL2) v Newmarket (VCL2) @ McCook Park. Due to Rovers unable to play night games, this tie has been switched to Newmarket's McCook Park. An all Viva Capital League 2 affair where both have already met. Newmarket had the edge over Rovers this time last month with a 4-0 league success and it would be hard to see Rovers being able to turn that result around here. Prediction: Newmarket to go through 3-0. Wed 11 Apr, 7.30pm KO: Toowong (VCL1) v Mooroondu (VCL3) @ Dunmore Park. The Viva Capital League 1 leaders suffered an unexpected loss to Moggill at the weekend but they should bounce back with this Pig 'N' Whistle Canale Cup tie against their opponents from two divisions below, Mooroondu. The Roos have not yet recorded a win this campaign and were also on the wrong end of an 11-0 thumping to Logan Metro earlier in the season. They'll need to have all their first team squad available here if they are to have any hope of getting a result from this tie whilst Toowong will look to use this game as the perfect tonic to put their recent league defeat behind them as they make a push for promotion in 2018. Prediction: Toowong to canter home with a 5-0 win. Tue 17 Apr, 7.30pm KO: Logan Village (VCL3) v Springfield Utd (VCL3) @ Big River Country Park. Perhaps the toughest of the RD1 ties to assess. Both sides have met already this season in a 2-2 stalemate at Springfield's Woodcrest College. Village are yet to secure a win in 2018 but other than a heavy defeat to league leaders Brisbane Athletic, have been involved in tight contests and are perhaps under-performing. Springfield have had just the one win this season against bottom side Logan Roos and they gifted Bethania Rams the three points in the league last weekend despite looking competitive and having otherwise shown they can defend well This one could well come down to how either defence performs on the night and it could take extra time to sort out the winner. Prediction: Village to get a win on the board with a late winner in extra time 2-1.

Narangba United (VCL2) v Logan Roos (VCL3) @ Narangba Sporting Complex.

MATCH POSTPONED - TO BE RESCHEDULED.
