The FFA Cup Brisbane Zone Round 2 Draw

The opening round of the FFA Cup in the Football Brisbane Zone has been drawn with 47 teams in the hat. Firstly the 12 Flight Centre Brisbane Premier League sides were placed in the pot with nine teams drawn to create nine byes and proceeding directly through to Round 3 and the three remaining sides joining the 35 Capital Leagues teams to provide 19 ties. The 9 teams receiving a bye and thus directly though to Round 3 are:

A couple of interesting clashes came from the main draw with Jimboomba United hosting North Brisbane - a repeat of the tie from 2015 which was North Brisbane's first foray into the cup, eventually going down 3-1 to United. Fortunes have since changed however with North Brisbane now favourites for this one having been promoted to Capital League 2 and Jimboomba relegated to Capital League 3 for this coming season. We will have the 'Dolphin Derby' with AC Carina hosting Redcliffe PCYC whilst the newest club to Football Brisbane - Logan Roos, will face fellow Capital League 3 side Ridge Hills United. Returning club Brisbane Athletic will experience their first ever FFA Cup encounter when facing Newmarket at Pinkenba. The three Flight Centre Brisbane Premier League sides set to battle it out in Round 2 include last season's giant killers Brisbane Knights, who face a tricky tie at home to Annerley. Acacia Ridge will welcome North Star to Ron Proud Field whilst finally, last season's Capital League 1 Champions Taringa Rovers must travel to Samford Parklands where they'll face Samford Rangers for a place in the next round.
