Flight Centre Premier League Weekly Preview - Semi Finals
Now it’s down to only two teams, with Mitchelton knocked out by Lions and Peninsula heading straight to the Grand Final off the back of an incredible 5-0 thrashing of Rochedale at Underwood Park.
What more is left to say? On with the show… Rochedale Rovers vs Lions FC Saturday 6pm at Underwood Park Rochedale Rovers were demolished 5-0 last Friday at home by Peninsula Power in their worst performance since very early in the year. Whispers around the ground are suggesting that Rovers season is over and they are going to repeat the Redlands United saga by finishing top but being unceremoniously dumped out of the Grand Final. But surely that has to be an outlier… Rovers have looked spectacularly good at times and it’s no coincidence they were at the worst with Kado Aoci unavailable because they were channeling everything through him. How they bounce back mentally from the hammer blow of back to back home losses is the key but they’ve done it at least once before so the precedent has been set. Lions FC are showing all the markings of a team heading for a silverware showdown at AJ Kelly Field next weekend with another dominating win last weekend, this time 3-0 over Mitchelton but statistics suggest it could easily have been a bigger margin. It almost feels as if their trouble in front of goal never happened. But of course it did, so it could happen again as unlikely as it seems. The last time these two teams met, Rovers won at Richlands, but Lions seem more efficient now with some of their better players recapturing the form which made them favourites way back in February, All that can be hoped for is a top-notch performance from both teams. If that happens, this could be the game of the year. The first goal is vital because a second goal will win it. Last weekend’s form is irrelevant. Prediction: 1-1 - Rochedale through on penalties.
