Mt Franklin Women's Premier League Preview - Semi Finals
Four teams left and everyone will fancy their chances in a one off game.
But the juggernaut in the room is Mitchelton who can probably drop a little in form but still take out their second trophy. Still, we have two intriguing battles on our hands. On with the show...
Mitchelton vs Capalaba Saturday 7pm at Teralba Park Mitchelton are far and away the favourites to pick up a second trophy, to say the very least, having won every single league game they played and winning the title yonks ago. They will have been itching to get to this point so they can have a crack at winning something else, with the thought of missing the Elaine Watson Cup Final recent in the memory. Unfortunately for the rest of the teams, they seem unassailable and a Grand Final place Is an absolute certainty. Capalaba have been the success story of the year and it could be a different prospect if Mitchelton weren’t in the equation. The Bulldogs only lost 2-0 at Teralba Park, a result surrounded by 23 goals scored and none conceded in the last three games. One suspects that more than anything they would like a crack at beating them in the Grand Final so a loss isn’t the end of the world. Clearly the two best teams in the league but the gulf is vast. Bulldogs will need a huge slice of luck and even then extra time could be a step too far. Prediction: Mitchelton 2-0
Annerley vs Peninsula Power Saturday 7:30pm at Elder Oval Annerley have slipped quietly under the radar after their capitulation to Power in the Elaine Watson Cup semi-final but they aren’t without their backers. A knockout final is obviously something of a Grand Final which levels the playing field and the Stars have every chance of winning if they can recapture their best form. An improvement is necessary but the question remains whether they have it within them to take an extra step. Peninsula Power are the genuine improvers having finally discovered how to defend as well as score bucket-loads of goals. An excellent win in the Elaine Watson Cup Final was marked by their ability to change tactics and let Buderim come at them in the second half. Everyone will be watching this result closely because Power are in form at the right time and only time will tell whether they have bridged the gap far enough to win three games in a row. Annerley have a case but the last time these two teams met, Power were dominant and that seems likely to happen again. Prediction: Peninsula 3-1
