Capital Leagues Weekly Preview
Results on the weekend settled some issues but there are still a couple to be resolved with catch up matches this weekend. Capital League 1 – Brisbane Knights confirmed a 3rd place finish. 4th position has been handed to Wolves FC due to a points reversal whilst North Star and Mt Gravatt face finishing in the bottom two. Capital League 2 – Virginia clinched 2nd spot on the ladder. Ipswich City have finished 3rd. Capital League 3 – Westside took 4th on the ladder. 2nd last is still unclear with three teams still in the frame. Capital League 4 – Samford Rangers won the Premiership. North Brisbane, with goal difference advantage, should finish 2nd. KPR need a 13 goal win to oust the Aces.
CAPITAL LEAGUE 1
Acacia Ridge v Mount Gravatt Due to recent points reversal from the North Star v Wolves FC game due to an ineligible player, Ridge's tilt for the top four has been extinguished. That said, Juan Jaimes is still looking for goals to claim the Capital League 1 Golden Boot, whilst the Hawks have been be granted a lifeline to climb out of the bottom two. Ridge will however want the win out of pride and should do so too. Bayside Utd v North Star North Star had their win over Wolves FC reversed, gifting Wolves fourth spot on the ladder and post season action. Star now find themselves face finishing in the bottom two should Bayside defeat them and Mt Gravatt upset Acacia Ridge. Bayside will maintain their run and take the points. Moggill v Southside Eagles Moggill were embarrassed to the tune of 11-1 by Taringa. Southside Eagles also had a big 5-0 win over The Gap. All that remains here for Moggill is to hope they can avoid losing all 22 matches. Eagles could finish 6th with a third win in a row. Sorry Moggill, but Eagles it is.
CAPITAL LEAGUE 2
Pine Hills v New Farm Utd. Pine Hills lost to Brisbane Phoenix while New Farm lost by the odd goal in three to Annerley. The Pythons can still finish above Oxley if they win this one. A win to the Farmers would take them to 7th. A draw or a loss means they will finish 8th. I think that Pine Hills, with that incentive, might just lift enough to get the win. Western Spirit v Ipswich City Was scheduled for this Sunday but Western Spirit have forfeited the match which means Ipswich City finish 3rd.
CAPITAL LEAGUE 3
Narangba Utd v Clairvaux Narangba’s match at Slacks Creek was abandoned after 30 minutes due to a serious injury to a Narangba player. Clairvaux gave themselves a lifeline beating Tarragindi Tigers to move above the Tigers into 9th. Narangba must win their last two matches to save themselves and this is not out of the question. Clairvaux only need a point to ensure safety. Narangba to keep their hopes alive by winning this one. Bardon Latrobe v Tarragindi Tigers Bardon lost the finals’ “playoff” to Westside and now will finish 5th. Tarragindi still need points to ensure they stay out of the bottom two. A point here would be enough for the Tigers due to their superior goal difference. I think they will get it with Bardon having nothing to play for.
CAPITAL LEAGUE 4
Kangaroo Point Rovers v Mooroondu Rovers saw off Bethania to ensure at least 3rd on the table. Mooroondu went down to North Brisbane. As mentioned above, KPR need a 13 goal win to take second from North Brisbane. If Mooroondu lose, they need to limit the damage to less than nine goals to avoid the wooden spoon on goal difference. Rovers should get up but not by enough to finish 2nd. Logan Metro v Samford Rangers Logan Metro drew with Springfield Utd to give them a chance of finishing 5th. Samford won the Premiership with a seven goal win over Logan Village which, unfortunately, sent the Falcons to the bottom of the ladder on goal difference. Samford may take the opportunity to rest players with injury or card concerns. Metro will want to finish 5th and this may be enough to get them the point they need.
