Mt Franklin Women's Premier League Preview - RD16

We're one step closer to the premiership title being decided although catch-up games look set to make the difference.

Meanwhile, the finals spots are far from sorted out yet and will likely go down to the final day before being decided. On with the show...

Capalaba vs Pine Hills Friday 8:30pm at John Fredericks Park Capalaba will take a little longer to officially wrap up a finals spot but that's the only thing holding them back because they are cruising at the moment and come into this game off the back of another solid victory. Not much more you can say other than thy are unlikely to drop points for the remainder of the season. Pine Hills are still hanging around just outside the top four and last week's result is largely irrelevant considering they were playing Mitchelton, but they put in a good effort nonetheless. Whilst they have been losing it's only been by narrow margins. It needs to be repeated again that goals will be the solution, This might be tight for a while but there can only be one winner. Capalaba are itching to get to the semi-finals. Prediction: Capalaba 2-0 Th Gap vs Virginia United Friday 8:30pm at Walton Bridge Reserve The Gap still have a finals chance but based on recent results it won't be too long before that is snuffed out. This game is just about a relegation play-off. If they lose, the threat of falling to the Capital League stays alive. If that isn't something worth lifting for, nothing is. The narrow win over Souths isn't a good sign. Virginia United have to see this as their last opportunity to avoid the drop, as unlikely as that may be. Yes, they've shipped a ton of goals over the last month but when there is less of a talent gap from their opposition they have the knack of staying in the contest. The prospect of genuine victory will be to their advantage This should be an entertaining match with an unpredictable outcome. A bit of extra motivation for the away team. Prediction: Virginia 2-1 Peninsula Power vs Annerley Saturday 5.00pm at AJ Kelly Field Peninsula Power seem to be getting all their ducks in a row at exactly the right time. An Elaine Watson Cup semi-final is just around the corner as they go into this game, undoubtedly the most important of the year so far. Twenty-two goals in the last four league matches continues the story of a season built on attack. Annerley go into this game with one less game played than Power so the pressure is magnified. A loss will see them drop out of the four as they look to snap a three game losing streak. Most importantly, their loss against Logan in the last round, by a single goal, changed their perspective entirely. Tight and valuable. Luck could play it's part and goals are sure to flow. Not to be missed. Prediction: 2-2 draw. Logan Lightning vs Eastern Suburbs Saturday 6.00pm at Cornubia Park Logan Lightning also have an Elaine Watson Cup home semi final to look forward to as their chances of grabbing silverware get better and better. Many pundits have been impressed with their improvement and their presence in the finals would be a welcome addition. An important game and one they should definitely win. Eastern Suburbs have two games in hand so they are still in the semi final race and have produced some handy wins over the last month. But it's an inability to perform consistently which has plagued them and which will probably make them pay. This would be an upset but it is possible. Lightning have plenty of improvement ahead of them but how much will depend on their goal return. Prediction: Logan 2-0 Mitchelton vs Souths United Sunday 4:15pm at Teralba Park This game is between two teams on different trajectories.

The last time both sides met it was a comprehensive win for the Mustangs. It will be interesting to see if Souths have made an improvement since then but it's no doubt likely to be a similar outcome.

Preditcion: Mitchelton by a comfortable half dozen.
