It's RD15 of the Mt Franklin Women's Premier League with still a number of things to be resolved...
Can Mitchelton win every league game? Who'll make the top 4? Who'll end up with the wooden spoon? We'll know a little bit more after this latest round. On with the show...
Virginia United vs Peninsula Power
Friday 8:30pm at Albert Bishop Park Virginia United are heading into the back end of the season looking for a relegation escape which isn't a fair reflection of the year so far. Nonetheless they need to bridge the points gap before worrying about anything else. A win this weekend at home would be a huge boost. Last weekend's narrow loss to in-form Logan gives hope. Peninsula Power need to win the majority of their remaining games if they are to escape from the tight race for fourth place. Whether or not they can is conjecture but if they lose this game it will be much, much harder. Still, they really shouldn't have too much trouble provided their defence holds up. Prediction: Peninsula 4-2 Eastern Suburbs vs Capalaba
Friday 8:30pm at Heath Park Eastern Suburbs are looking semi-final contenders again on the back of a nice string of wins but this game will be much tougher than any of those, ensuring that anything taken from the Bulldogs is a valuable bonus which could prove the difference. The Tigers have been dominant in this club derby for a long time. Capalaba are the team of the moment with Coach Robert Gibson collecting the Awards & Trophies Coach of the Month award and everyone is waiting for the rematch against Mitchelton in the second last round. But they need to keep their hands on the steering wheel if they are not to get over-confident. Form suggests they won't. Prediction: Capalaba 3-0
Souths United vs The Gap
Saturday 5.00pm at Wakerley Park Souths United have had a couple of unfortunate heavy losses since the promising loss to the Tigers three weeks ago but this game sets itself up as one where they might be competitive once again. One very neutral supporter is hoping they get another victory before 2017 reaches its end. The Gap have suffered some big losses but last week's 6-0 tonking at home by Peninsula Power was problematic, to say the least. A real lack of confidence makes them vulnerable at the moment with relegation not too far behind them. Without their defence playing well, they have real problems. Prediction: 2-2 draw Annerley vs Logan Lightning
Saturday 6.15pm at Elder Oval Annerley have come up against the best two teams in the competition, back to back, and despite losing both games, proved they will be deserved finalists if they get there. They probably will and almost certainly will with three points from this game. This is a chance to prove their worth. Logan Lightning continue to impress with last week's narrow win proving they can take the points when it really matters. Their presence in the finals series would add some serious interest and probably some big crowds following along. If they win this game, who knows where they can end up? Prediction: Annerley 1-0
Pine Hills United vs Mitchelton
Saturday 7.00pm at James Drysdale Reserve
Pine Hills United won 7-0 last week but that result most definitely can't be taken on face value because form leading into that game was not the greatest. At the moment they are clinging on to fourth but the challengers are coming. Losing this game won't help their cause. Mitchelton are almost impossible to write about without repeating the same superlatives over and over again. Their record is almost impeccable and they will more than likely win the title and the Grand Final. But they won't win the Cup because they are out. They are beatable. Prediction: Mitchelton 7-0
