Mt Franklin Women's Premier League Preview - Catch-Up Rnd

The Mt Franklin’s Women’s Premier League has been seriously fractured by the weather for some time with this weekend allowing us to get some equilibrium and understanding of where all the teams are at. As an added bonus, all four catch-up games are capable of changing the future considerably.
On with the show...
The Gap vs Capalaba Friday 8:30pm at Walton Bridge Reserve The Gap arrive at a crucial time of their season with a tough away game to negotiate. It could be a turning point, particularly if they lose, with all three teams immediately above them also in action. It’s no secret they have struggled with their finishing which leaves them with a not too healthy goal average. Vital game. Capalaba are gradually getting better with the finals in their sights and they could wrap up second over the next couple of weeks. No other team will be as eager to play their catch up games, if only to get the break over the other sides they deserve. In any other league, in this form, they would be title contenders, of not favourites. The Bulldogs won this fixture only a fortnight ago so will be heavy favourites considering the five goal margin. Prediction: Capalaba 4-0 Peninsula Power vs Logan Lightning Saturday 2:30pm at AJ Kelly Field Peninsula have the opportunity to make a big step towards a top four finish if they turn their first catch-up game, against Logan at home on Saturday, into a win. On the flip side, it could all come crashing down if they lose and they could fall as far as seventh. A return to high-scoring form is urgently needed against a solid defence and with their recent Elaine Watson Cup win over league leaders Mitchelton they'll have discovered a new confidence. Logan Lightning are everyone’s tip for a big back end to the season on the back of their win over The Gap which could easily have been more than the two goals from Tiarne Petterwood. Momentum is all important and there is a definite feeling that the Lightning are building for a big end of season. Until Power's recent win over Mitchelton, you'd perhaps expect Logan to take this one out but momentum is a huge ally to any side and at home again this week should prove the difference.. Prediction: Power 2-0 Souths United vs Eastern Suburbs Saturday 4pm at Wakerley Park Souths United beat Virginia only a month ago but it must seem like a lifetime with some heavy defeats over the last three weeks. But there are positives. They have still been finding the net from time to time and Easts are of similar standard to Virginia. If it happened once, it could happen again. Nine goals in two games, remember? Eastern Suburbs go into this game with everything to lose which has tripped teams up in the past but seems an unlikely outcome. Common sense suggests this will be a biggish win, a huge advantage as their immediate competitors go tooth and nail. The Tigers will shortly have destiny in their own hands, if they don’t trip over their own feet. Souths United are doing their best but not putting up much resistance. Anything but a win for the Tigers would be a huge upset. Prediction: Easts 3-0
