Mt Franklin Premier League Preview - RD11

It was a weekend off last weekend for everyone so teams will be chomping at the bit to get back on the park.

It very much looks like a race for second place and finals spots now with Mitchelton looking like premiers already barring a complete disaster.

It's a predominantly Friday night show this week so let's get on with the show...

Peninsula Power vs Capalaba {POSTPONED] Virginia United vs Pine Hills Friday 8:30pm at Albert Bishop Park Virginia United were on a serious slide down the ladder but stopped the rot with a handy home draw against Eastern Suburbs in Round 10 and then in a major shock and with seven usual first team players out, knocked off second placed Capalaba in the Elaine Watson Cup last weekend. With two extra games played over the teams around them it would take a mighty run home to make the semi-finals. But that’s probably not on their agenda. Pine Hills got out of jail when they weren’t great against The Gap but somehow grabbed all three points at home. They remain in third place and are in with a realistic chance of repeating last year’s top four appearance. Whether they are as good as last year remains to be seen. This could be a danger game for Pine Hills, although United aren’t as good as the Gap. Still would be a surprise if the Pythons lose. Prediction: Hills 2-0 Logan Lightning vs Souths United Friday 8:30pm at Cornubia Park Logan Lightning might be second last on the table but they have captured some of their best form over the last two games, even though they lost to Capalaba in Round 10. It’s a long shot that they’ll make the top four but will cause nuisance value along the way and will surely collect another three points on Friday. Souths United have battled gamely all season and fully deserved their win over Virginia, but backed up to lose against Annerley. If nothing else, their opposition will show added respect coming up against them. Concentrating on their own performance is still the key if they want to add another notch to their belt. It’s something of a local derby and it’s the two bottom teams. Still, Logan would be seriously disappointed to lose. Prediction: Logan 3-0 The Gap vs Mitchelton {POSTPONED] Annerley vs Eastern Suburbs Saturday 3.00pm at Elder Oval Annerley are clinging to fourth place but have no games in hand so this match is vital in the context of gaining traction against the teams behind them. They’ll be favourites to win but it really could go either way with some up and down form from the Stars. Even a four point gap from fifth doesn’t guarantee an advantage. Eastern Suburbs are way off the pace, surprisingly, but only having played eight games means seventh place is misleading. The opponents they still have to play twice are both beatable. If they can get past Annerley this weekend and Souths next weekend their season could change dramatically. Lots on the line on this game and it could easily fall the way of the away team. Close and vital for both teams. Prediction: Easts 2-1
