It was back to a full league fixture list at the weekend and with the season heading to the midway point, things are starting to look interesting throughout the various leagues. Here’s what has caught our as we scan the results and ladders from the latest round of action... #1. The Flight Centre Premier League is at it’s closest it’s been in decades. Just four points separates leaders Rochedale Rovers and ninth placed Logan FC, leaving just Capalaba, Ipswich Knights and Grange Thistle effectively out of the title race. Peninsula Power have joined Rovers at the top end of the ladder but it’s anyone’s guess who will be there at the end and make up the top four come finals time. At the bottom end, Knights suffered their fourth straight defeat at the weekend to fellow strugglers Capalaba that featured Coach Geoff Hurford who has emerged from retirement for the last two games - considering they are undefeated from those last two games, we may well be seeing more of him this season. #2. Two sides in the Capital Leagues are looking firm relegation favourites having still to pick up a single point yet this season. Capital League 1 side Moggill and Capital League 2’s Park Ridge are the sides doing it tough.

For Moggill, the losing streak has extended to both the Westfield FFA Cup and Pig ’N’ Whistle Canale Cup competitions, whilst Ridge at least have recorded victories in those competitions and are still currently in the Pig ’N’ Whistle Canale Cup. Can both sides turn around their fortunes? #3. Capital League 3 league leaders St George Willawong will be thanking AC Carina after they caused an upset with a 1-0 success over Caboolture courtesy of former Flight Centre Premier League player Daniel Abbey's lone strike.

The defeat leaves Caboolture eight points adrift of the league leaders and with the two meeting this coming weekend, St George could well find themselves in an unassailable position should they claim all the points. Carina move into third spot and look like finals contenders on their recent form. #4. Samford Rangers remain the only undefeated side in the premier men’s competitions after their recent top of the table clash against Springfield United in Captial League 4 on Sunday afternoon. It turned out to be a goalfest as Samford came from 2-0 down to win 6-3, maintaining their grip on Capital League 4 and a promotion spot to Capital League 3 that they narrowly missed out on last season.

Highlights:

#5. Lastly we take a look at the Women’s Capital League where there was a top of the table encounter on Saturday night between North Pine and UQFC. The Gorillas edging out UQ in a 7 goal thriller that ended 4-3 in favour of the home side as they maintain top spot on the ladder and eye off a possible promotion to the Mt Franklin Women’s Premier League come the end of the season.
