Bayside Add To Moggill's Misery
Moggill 0 Bayside Utd 4 (Brockle Hurst 6’, 25’; Curtis 59’, 77’) HT: 0-2 Played at Bellbowrie Sports Club
On a chilly Autumn evening out at Bellbowrie, in a frenetically paced match, Bayside extended Moggill’s run of defeats to eight from eight. Bayside made the early running and made that count when, on six minutes, a corner conceded after a quickly taken free-kick was sent in from the right and was flicked on to where Marc Brockle Hurst was on hand to back-heel the ball past Jared Broadbent in the Moggill goal. Bayside continued to exert pressure but could not convert the chances they were creating. The best of these from Brockle Hurst which reached James Quigley who headed the ball downwards from close range but straight at Broadbent. Then on 25 minutes, Callum Curtis sent in a cross from the left which reached Brockle Hurst who drove the ball home. Broadbent got a hand to it but could not keep it out. A minute later, Moggill had their best opportunity of the half when Michael Giallourakis was put though on the right and fired his shot against the underside of the bar with Andrew Jennison in the Bayside goal beaten. Despite claims it had crossed the line when it came down, Assistant Referee Lauren James was not convinced and the ball was cleared to safety. Just after the half hour a great cross from the right was misjudged by Sam Peacock who over ran the ball and missed another opportunity to increase the lead and moments later Quigley shot straight at Broadbent after beating the off-side trap. Moggill’s Harrison Stirling made a strong run through the middle of the park, beating a number of Bayside players, before firing a shot from 40 yards out that just cleared the cross-bar. The second half continued the pattern of the first with Bayside creating opportunities regularly. After 59 minutes, a great move down the left saw Patrick Theodore and Peacock exchange passes before Peacock crossed to Curtis who turned and slotted the ball home. On 69 minutes, Curtis had a great chance when meeting a cross from the right just eight yards out but volleyed the ball over the bar when it seemed easier to score. Bayside collected their 4th goal on 77 minutes. Theodore crossed from the right to Curtis who drove his shot powerfully in off the underside of the bar. Giallourakis toiled manfully up front for Moggill and did have a couple of opportunities in the second half. The best of these was when he received the ball on the left and turned and shot but not before covering defence managed to take the sting out of the shot and Jennison gathered. Bayside will be happy with a win, in spite of a number of missed opportunities, that keeps them in touch with the top four. For Moggill, although appearing to be on the improve in recent matches, they were well beaten on the night. For them it is time to regroup and look towards their next match.
Coaches Reactions:
Jamie Lowndes (Moggill): “We’ve had a big turnaround losing players from last year and are looking to the future in terms of bringing through young players and are still getting things together. Tonight we ran into a hot Bayside team who were really good. The boys dropped their heads a bit towards the end and that happens when you’ve lost a few games on the trot. We haven’t had a game for a month due to weather and breaks and hopefully that’s a bad game out of the way.” Kevin Byrne (Bayside Utd): “We should have had the match wrapped up by half-time, it could have been five or six by then. At least we are creating chances which we have struggled to do in the last few games. We changed the formation a little bit tonight and that seemed to work and we got back to playing the football we were playing last year.”
