Westfield FFA Cup Brisbane Zone Preliminary RD4 Preview

More action coming up this week in Preliminary RD4 of the Westfield FFA Cup with the final five ties to be played with the winners to join giant killers Brisbane Knights, Logan Lightning, Rochedale Rovers, Southside Eagles and UQFC. Centenary Stormers v Souths United 7.30pm - Tues 11th April at Atthows Park. This tie really does pose some questions as the Capital League 2 leaders host Flight Centre Premier League side Souths Utd. It perhaps looks like the proverbial ‘banana skin’ for Souths with Stormers being at home and also boasting a number of former top flight players in Shoheel Khan, Steven Chester and Joe Kleibo. Khan is the the current leading goal scorer across all the leagues with 12 goals and is of course well versed in Westfield FFA Cup experience with his time at Lions FC. Steven Chester also boasts the fastest hat trick in the competition nationally when he netted three times in under three minutes for Mitchelton last year. Souths are enjoying good form in the Flight Centre Premier League but shouldn’t take Stormers for granted. Toowong v Albany Creek 7.30pm - Tues 11th April at Dunmore Park. Another Capital League 2 v Flight Centre Premier League tie but one that will perhaps be easier to predict given each side’s form. Perhaps the one factor to be considered will be the Dunmore Park pitch which as we saw in the highlights from Toowong’s 1-0 win over Brisbane Phoenix at the weekend, can cause problems for visiting teams with it’s unpredictable bobble. Creek will enter this game as firm favourites however and Coach Pouria Nabi will be unlikely to field a more second string side like he did in the previous round against Springfield Utd and the coach himself will be absent from the sidelines as he serves out a suspension after his dismissal from the technical area at Grange Thistle earlier last month, meaning no cameo appearance from the bench on this occasion. Wolves FC v Peninsula Power 7.30pm - Tues 11th April at Carmichael Park. Wolves have already accounted for one Flight Centre Premier League side when they defeated Eastern Suburbs in the last round. Can they repeat that feat when Peninsula Power head to Carmichael Park on Thursday night? Mark Dykman’s side haven’t fulfilled the expectations many held for them at the start of the season as they languish in the bottom half of the table in Capital League 1. But as we’ve seen already, they are very capable of causing an upset especially considering the personnel at their disposal with a large number of players who’ve featured in both Flight Centre Premier League and also PlayStation4 NPL too. Power however will believe this is their chance to reach the Round of 32 with the top flight sides dwindling as each round goes by. Taringa Rovers v Grange Thistle 7.30pm - Thur 13th April at Jack Speare Park. The last time these two sides met was in Capital League 1 last season. Both sides enjoyed victories over the other with Grange having the last laugh in a 5-0 victory. But this season poses a far tighter contest with Thistle yet to record a win in the Flight Centre Premier League where they occupy bottom spot in the table, whilst Rovers lead Capital League 1 having only suffered one loss. So on paper, this should be a close run game but considering Grange have not played for three weeks, it could well hand momentum to Rovers, especially with home advantage in their favour. It could well be another departure in this season's Westfield FFA Cup for a Flight Centre Premier League side. Holland Park Hawks v North Pine 7.30pm - Thur 13th April at Whites Hill Reserve. Like the Taringa v Grange tie, these two sides met last season in the Flight Centre Premier League. The Gorillas will not have happy memories though from their last visit to Whites Hill Reserve where they were on the wrong end of a 7-0 thrashing. With mixed form in Capital League 1 (3 wins and 3 losses), North Pine face a stiff task if they're to progress to RD5. Holland Park hold all the aces for this one and with them in third spot on the Flight Centre Premier League ladder, there only looks to be one result to come from this one with safe passage to the RD5 draw awaiting the Hawks.
