Club in Focus - Western Spirit FC
Formed in 2005 with the merger of Goodna Soccer Club and Camira Soccer Club, Western Spirit FC has been catering for players from Ipswich and outer Brisbane suburbs of Goodna, Camira, Springfield, Redbank Plains, Forest Lake, Inala and even Greenbank in recent years.
The area of Goodna itself has long been associated with the game, having most likely been the place where the first 'soccer' match was played in the Brisbane region, if not in Australia itself.
The club has enjoyed some recent improvements at its Kippen Park home with new LED lighting having been installed for improved lighting and cheaper running costs; as well as an A-League quality playing surface on the main field having come from former A-League side Gold Coast United's Skilled Park Stadium. Kippen Park hosts the club's U12s through to Seniors and Over 35s, but they also have Camira Reserve which serves the club's U6 to U11 ALDI MiniRoos games.
Spirit's highest league position was achieved in 2010 when the club finished 3rd in the old Premier Division 1 competition behind Premiers North Pine and runners-up University of QLD (now UQFC). In 2016, Spirit just missed out on finals football, finishing 5th in Capital League 2. Their 2017 campaign will kick-off with an away trip to Pine Hills on Saturday 18th February.
