Pig'n'Whistle Sign New Canale Cup Sponsorship Deal

Football Brisbane General Manager Craig Morris and Pig'n'Whistle Riverside's Venue Manager Jack Nicholson (pictured above), recently signed an agreement that will see the iconic pub sponsor the Canale Cup for the next two seasons. The deal also includes naming rights of the competition which will become known as the Pig'n'Whistle Canale Cup.

Pig'n'Whistle's partnership with Football Brisbane has been firmly established in recent years with the venue playing host to the season launch for the previous two seasons and will once again be the venue in 2017. Mr Nicholson was pleased with the continuation of the partnership by saying, "As 'Brisbane’s Home of Football', we thought a partnership between ourselves and Football Brisbane was an obvious choice. He added, "We strongly believe that a strong local competition and high participation rates lead to success at the professional level and we are excited to be playing our part in supporting the World Game at a local level". Asked what the company's thoughts were on the Pig'n'Whistle Canale Cup, Mr Nicholson was enthusiastic in his reply, "We are really excited to sponsor the Canale Cup for the next two years. With the competition running alongside the preliminary rounds of the FFA Cup, it provides players with an opportunity to play against quality and experience they usually wouldn’t encounter in their respective leagues". 2017 will also mark a restructure of Brisbane's premier cup competition with a split from the Westfield FFA Cup to become a stand alone competition but the cup will still be for those clubs whose most senior men’s team plays in Football Brisbane competitions. This has been designed to provide clubs with an additional cup competition and an incentive for those clubs that proceed deep into the qualifying rounds of the Westfield FFA Cup as they'll be drawn later into Pig'n'Whistle Canale Cup. Mr Morris stated, "We're confident clubs will like the new format which in essence gives those clubs knocked out of the Westfield FFA Cup a second bite at the cherry with another cup competition and potential silverware at the end of the season".
