Canale Cup Quarter Finals

So we're down to six teams left to play out the quarter finals of the Canale Cup with Capalaba through to the semi-finals after defeating Lions FC. Tonight sees the lowest tier side Acacia Ridge looking to advance to the semi-finals when they host Ipswich Knights at Ron Proud Field. It will be a stern test for the Capital League 2 side but with home advantage and an extra day's rest under their belt from the weekend, this could be a possible 'banana skin' for Knights, who will need to be at their best against a side determined to make an impact this season. Also on Wednesday evening, we have the all Flight Centre Premier League tie between Rochedale Rovers and Mitchelton. Both sides are battling for a top four finish in the league, with Mitchelton still a chance, be it very slim, of the Premiership. The visitors will be underdogs in this tie with them having endured a tough weekend league game at Peninsula Power, whilst Rochedale had a more comfortable Sunday afternoon at Ipswich Knights. It ought to be a tight contest regardless with possible fatigue setting in later in the game after both sides having played Sunday afternoon matches at the weekend. The last of the quarter final ties being played next Wednesday 27th July will pit Moggill at home to Eastern Suburbs. Easts are hitting form at just the right time of the season and should easily account for their Capital League 1 opponents who are now looking to the Canale Cup as their final hope for silverware in 2016. Easts are of course in the hunt for a top four league finish and with a catch-up game coming up against UQFC, have their own fate in their hands. A Canale Cup success wouldn't go amiss in their plans though and you'd have to perhaps consider them a good chance of making the final.
