Football The Winner As Lions Go Through

Moggill FC 0

Halftime: 0-3

Played at: Bellbowrie Sports Club

The scoreline may not have been flattering for the home side but football was the big winner as Lions FC moved into the final game of the Westfield FFA Cup Brisbane Zone qualifiers with a 7-0 win over Moggill FC at Bellbowrie Sports Club on Wednesday evening.

Nathan Shepherd, Michael Butters and Kenya Takahashi all scored from close range in the first half as Lions asserted their dominance despite not having a full squad available.

Lions FC's new signing Sekou Jomanday firing home for his first goal for the club.

After the break, Shoheel Khan and Tynan Diaz added to the visitors’ total but it was the performance of new signing Sekou Jomanday that caught the eye. A double on debut is a handy return but it was the second goal, a dribbling effort past the keeper and defender, which confirmed he will fit in nicely at Richlands.

A massive crowd turned out and ringed the fenceless ground. Every opportunity to score by the Geckos, particularly one chance from Sam Chesterfield which was spectacularly saved by Phil Zabaks, was greeted with a huge roar. It was a shame they never managed to find the net because it would have been deafening outcome.

In the other game played, Brisbane Strikers fought out a 2-0 win over a gusty Southside Eagles at Memorial Park ensuring we have two Flight Centre Premier League teams up against PlayStation4 National Premier Leagues teams in the final preliminary round.

Lions will play the Strikers at Lions Stadium whilst Rochedale Rovers will head to Redlands United at Cleveland Showgrounds.

In the final round-up for Moggill, the fantastic win over Olympic FC will be long remembered as one of the greatest moments in the history of the club. They may have been well-beaten today but many other teams would love to have had a run as good as theirs. FB Media Player Of The Match: Josh AHERN (Lions FC) Ahern was active in the midfield all night and created plenty of space for his wide men to run into.
